Weekly Newsletter 7/31

Hello! We survived the elements this delivery week. The heat tried to take us out, but we made it! PLEASE remember, if you're leaving a cooler out it needs to be  large enough to fit your entire order AND it's needs ice. A cooler without ice is like an oven for your goodies!

We delivered flameprince peaches this week. I do have some extras for pick up at our house if you're interested. 3 pounds $9. Please text me if you're interested.

We're seeing lots of Osage farm produce now! The cabbage, tomatoes and zucchini were Osage this week. I'm hoping to see heirloom tomatoes soon. When I do

Another one bites the dust: We had to cut off and say goodbye to another giant pumpkin Tuesday. The bottom had rotten and the ants moved in.

Fingers crossed the second one makes it. Jon's dreams of rolling up to different pumpkin weigh offs and leaving with pockets full of cash are dissipating with every moment the temperature is above 90. BUT FEAR NOT- he's not deterred. If anything, it's strengthening his resolve. He's already planning for next year; a new watering system, more shade cloth, a bigger fan, starting a little earlier and soil amendments this Winter.  About the watering system- he thinks the overhead (sprinkler) system we're using is one of the problems. Squash absolutely HATES being wet. Next year he's using something called a tape method which is a little like soaker hoses I think? I'm not sure all this information is overloading my brain. It's too hot to process all this information.  I think he feels the same way when I tell him about an audiobook I'm listening to or this really cool pattern I found I want to crochet. ALAS, much like the temperatures and the humidity, hope remains high. Tune in next week for Jon vs Mother Nature.

Thank you to Sam and her staff at The Queen's Pantry for keeping your orders safe from the terrible heat. Please don't forget you always have the option to pick up! Sam would love to see you and give suggestions on the best chocolate to pair with your fruit, crisps to go with your veggies, something from the freezer section or unique gifts for somebody who has everything. Plus she'll give you a little taste of that British humor for free!

I'm proud of the 2/3 of you who decided to keep the red cabbage in your basket! My favorite way to eat red cabbage is pickled on top of tacos. Here's an easy and quick recipe with a few variations! hollandbotanical.com/blog/quick-pickled-red-cabbage You can also use this brine to make pickled onions, which are so so good.

I can't believe this is the last day of July. The kiddos will be in school, football season will be back (YAY!) and unfortunately peach season has just a few weeks left. If you're thinking about getting a basket to freeze or can, don't wait. This season has been so good! It's not on the order form but you can order boxes of pretty much anything to do....anything you want with! I had a customer buy a box of plums (55 in this box) and she and her husband polished it off in A WEEKEND. I bet they got their steps in going back and forth to the potty! Whatever you'd like to do with them, can, freeze or eat it all up fresh let me know and I'll get you some prices.
